InQueery Affinity

InQueery is an affinity group for LGBTQ+ folks both online and in the Halton Region. For queer youth, finding and interacting with others like ourselves can often seem like an impossible task, especially in areas that aren’t particularly welcoming to the queer community. InQueery’s primary goal is to help make these connections. In our current stage, we are only running our online meetups and hope to soon be extending these interactions to in-person meetups in the Halton region in Ontario, Canada. Our meetups are welcome to anyone who identifies with the LGBTQ+ community and those who may be questioning their sexuality or gender identity. InQueery is a safe space for LGBTQ+ (and questioning) folks of any religion, race, ethnicity, sex, gender, sexuality, and background. During our meetups we discuss general LGBTQ+ issues and topics as well has having a “roundtable” discussion that is open for questions that everyone on the chat is welcome to ask and answer.

Our online meetups can be accessed by sending a quick DM (direct message) to our instagram account (@InQueeryAffinity). In order to preserve the spirit of our online platform, we do not publicize the access instructions to the platform. We want to ensure a good and comfortable experience for everyone who is interested in our chats, and to do that we don’t want random users joining the chat with any malicious intent. Once we receive an access request in our direct messages, we will provide the link to our platform and our log-in name. On our platform, folks can choose to use their real name as their username or an anonymous name so long as it is not offensive to anyone. Our meetings are typically hosted every week on a Saturday or Sunday between the hours of 2pm and 5pm (EDT).

Note, InQueery is not a replacement for traditional therapy or licensed therapists. Our meetups serve only to generate a sense of community for LGBTQ+ youth (mostly ages 13-25) and to provide a comfortable space for asking questions about gender, sexuality, and other related topics.
